Home Life & About the breed

DSC_8824.jpg

German Shepherds are a very versatile breed. They are often used in the military and for police work, but you can also find them doing therapy and service work. Or just great family companions! There are several different lines of German Shepherds, there are: American and West German Show Lines, and Czech, West German, and East German Working Lines.

The German Shepherd's breed standard calls for a certain amount of aloofness but still have self-confidence and be approachable. They should be direct and fearless, but not hostile.

German Shepherds are not considered a giant breed! Males typically should not surpass 26" (at the withers) and 90lbs. Females normally should not surpass 24" (at the withers) and 70lbs.

How our puppies are raised

All of our puppies will be raised with Puppy Culture

From the moment the puppies are born, we immediately introduce them to Early Neurological Stimulation. The first three weeks of their life are very important! We handle them multiple times a day; touch is the most important thing for them during this time since their eyes do not open until around 10 days old and are not able to hear until 2 weeks old. During this time, we will gently handle their feet, ears, tail, and mouth.

When they are about 2 weeks old, we will begin desensitizing them to nail trimmings and introduce them to many different sounds (fireworks, thunder, vacuums, etc). We give them Pyrantel dewormer at this time as well.

At around week 4, we will have various larger toys (kids toys) in their puppy area so they can walk over different textures. They will begin the litter training and weaning process. And continue to be handled daily! We administer their Neopar vaccine at this time, and another dose of Pyrantel.

At around week 6, we will introduce new people, objects, and dogs (our own dogs). Depending on the time of year, we will also introduce them to a kiddy pool. We give Safeguard dewormer at this time.

At around week 7, we begin temperament testing and the process of choosing which family & environment they would do best in.

At week 8, we administer the Canine Spectra-5 vaccine and Safegaurd again, then they are ready to go to their new homes!
